Screen Test
Six colours. A closer look at your display.
A manual check. Your eyes, your observations.
To leave: press Esc, or tap the screen / press Tab to reveal the return button. If fullscreen is unavailable, browser controls may remain.
YOUR OBSERVATIONS
What did you notice?
Look for dark spots, tint differences or marks on the white field.
Optional. Recorded only in this tab.
The preview and instructions work without JavaScript. Fullscreen, guided results and lighting adjustments require JavaScript; enable it to use those controls.

YOUR RECORD
Your observation summary
These are your selections, not an automated diagnosis.
User-reported advanced observations (optional)
No defect is detected or ruled out by this page. If an issue persists, consult the manufacturer’s support or warranty policy. Do not press, rub or flash suspected pixels.
A tiny fixed dot? Compare it with the dead pixel test.
OPTIONAL · OUTSIDE THE SIX-COLOUR SEQUENCE
Advanced checks: grayscale and gradients
Compare five neutral levels, a continuous gray ramp, or both together. Choose each view yourself; nothing cycles or opens fullscreen automatically. Your six-colour test stays where you left it.
Five grayscale steps · horizontal
CSS levels: #000000, #404040, #808080, #C0C0C0, #FFFFFF (RGB channels 0, 64, 128, 192, 255). The continuous ramp runs from black to white.
Escape exits. Tap or press Tab to reveal return controls. If fullscreen is unavailable, browser and system controls may remain.
What you may notice: adjacent levels may look similar, or a level may look uneven. This does not measure contrast or identify a panel defect. Compare at your usual viewing angle and with ordinary content.
Record an optional advanced observation
Each pattern and orientation has its own entry. Save replaces that entry; Skip clears it. Unanswered entries do not mean a clear display.
Up to 1,000 characters, kept in this tab only; clears on reload. Never submitted.
User-reported advanced observations
- No advanced observations recorded. JavaScript is needed to change patterns and record observations.
These browser-generated visual aids are not calibrated instruments. Monitor, OS colour management, GPU, colour depth, display mode, ambient light and viewing angle affect what you see. A CSS ramp using 0–255 channel values cannot prove 10-bit precision, measure gamma or colour accuracy, or identify a physical defect. Persistent concerns should go to the manufacturer; do not press, rub or try flashing repairs.
METHOD
Inspect first. Interpret carefully.
This is a manual visual inspection for people checking a new, used or familiar display. The sequence is white, black, red, green, blue and neutral grey. Each colour gives you a different background against which to compare a mark.
- If needed, turn the display off and clean it according to its manufacturer’s instructions before inspecting.
- Use ordinary room lighting and a comfortable viewing distance. Keep the device at a comfortable brightness.
- Open each colour, return to the controls and mark what you saw. Advance when you are ready, or skip a colour.
From observation to next step
| You notice | What to try next | What remains uncertain |
|---|---|---|
| A small fixed dot | Compare it using the dead pixel test. | A dot can also be dirt or physical damage. |
| Uneven shading or colour | Compare white and grey at your normal viewing angle. | Reflections, viewing angle and panel behaviour affect appearance. |
| Smudges or dirt | Turn the screen off and follow manufacturer cleaning guidance, then recheck. | A visual test cannot identify the material on the surface. |
| Banding | Note where you saw it and compare with normal content. | Solid fields alone do not measure gradient reproduction or colour accuracy. Try the optional advanced checks above to compare deliberate steps with a continuous ramp. |
A record, not a certificate
“Nothing unusual” means you did not notice an issue on that step. It does not certify a fault-free display. These exact CSS swatches cannot measure calibration, response time, refresh rate or hardware brightness.
Persistent or concerning changes are a reason to contact your display manufacturer or a qualified service provider. Save your own notes separately if you need them; this session clears on reload.
Choose the right view
For a simple blank backdrop, return to the white screen. If you are using the display to add light rather than inspect it, use adjustable white screen light.
Can a gray ramp certify 10-bit colour or calibration?
No. These CSS visual aids cannot measure gamma, colour accuracy or bit depth. OS colour management, GPU, browser rendering, panel mode and viewing conditions all affect the result.
Why do I return from fullscreen to record?
Controls and instructions would cover the area you are examining. The inspection view stays blank until you tap or press Tab to reveal controls; observations are entered back on this page.
How this tool works
The display uses exact CSS colour values, rendered locally in your browser. No camera, automatic hardware analysis or observation upload is used. Privacy information is below.
